In July 2023, my husband and I embarked on a dreamy honeymoon to Skardu, Pakistan, a journey filled with breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable experiences over seven enchanting days.
Our adventure began in Skardu, a quaint town nestled amidst the mighty Karakoram Range. Surrounded by towering peaks and crystal-clear lakes, Skardu welcomed us with its serene charm and warm hospitality. The first day was spent exploring the local markets, savoring traditional Balti cuisine, and marveling at the ancient fort overlooking the town.
The highlight of our trip was the mesmerizing Deosai National Park, known as the "Land of Giants." At an elevation of over 4,000 meters, the vast expanse of rolling plains greeted us with carpets of wildflowers and herds of grazing Himalayan brown bears. We indulged in picnics by sparkling streams and watched the sun paint the sky with hues of gold and pink as it set behind the distant peaks.
Next, we ventured into the heart of Shigar Valley, famous for its rich cultural heritage and historic Shigar Fort. The centuries-old wooden mosques and beautifully carved architecture transported us back in time, while the lush orchards of apricot and walnut trees provided a serene backdrop for leisurely walks hand in hand.
Our journey continued to Khaplu, a hidden gem nestled in the shadow of the towering Masherbrum Peak. The picturesque town offered panoramic views of glaciers and glistening rivers. We explored the ancient Khaplu Palace, a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture, and savored the quiet moments amidst terraced fields and blooming gardens.
One of the most surreal experiences awaited us at the Cold Desert of Skardu, where we found ourselves amidst a landscape straight out of a fairy tale. The stark contrast of golden sand dunes against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks left us spellbound as we rode camels and watched the sunset casting a magical glow over the desert.
Our journey concluded with a visit to Kachura and Basho Valley, where turquoise lakes mirrored the towering peaks above. We cruised on Shangrila Lake, known as the "Heavenly Lake," and hiked through lush meadows dotted with vibrant wildflowers in Basho Valley, soaking in the serenity and untouched beauty of nature.
As we bid farewell to Skardu, we carried with us not only memories of awe-inspiring landscapes but also a deeper bond strengthened by the shared moments of wonder and exploration. Our honeymoon in Skardu was truly a journey of love, adventure, and discovery, marking the beginning of our married life with cherished memories that would forever remain etched in our heart
